![]() This is likely controversial, but I think fanservice has an addictive effect that can hurt fans in the long run. I wish the world was different in 2022, but we still have so far to go. A lot of LGBTQ+ people still have to hide. While you could argue that fanservice allows closeted (or not closeted) LGBTQ+ actors and idols to make money while hiding in plain sight, it still comes across as hypocritical. Look at how Holland, afaik the only out K-pop star, was recently the victim of a homophobic hate crime. It's just becomes so hard to trust what people say and it creates conflict within the BL community regularly.īeing LGBTQ+ is still a career killer and may lead to violence and even death in a lot of countries that produce BL. ![]() ![]() How can we even trust someone when this is the kind of content they're paid to create and also 100 % have contractual obligations to do? Look at all the arguments about a beloved CP on this sub, with accusations about homophobia being flung at those who express doubt due to the fact that the actors are still under contract. I absolutely understand why it appeals to fans, like it's literally them taking a fantasy and dangling it in front of the audience as if to say, "This might actually be real, who knows wink wink nudge nudge". ![]()
